East Nepean Little League has learned that Little League International has confirmed its ban on composite bats in Junior, Senior, and Big League Divisions staring with the 2011 spring season. Little League has also published a new bat performance standard for all non-wood bats used for regular and tournament season effective for the 2012 season.

As most baseball bat manufactures are still assessing the full impact of this new standard to their products lines, compliant bats have a limited availability.

At present, the moratorium on composite bats does not apply to the Little League Baseball (Majors) Division and below. Little League International has contracted with the University of Massachusetts (Lowell) to begin research testing composite bats 2 ¼ barreled bats that are currently approved for play in Little League Baseball (Majors) Division and below. They have committed to notifying Leagues by January 1, 2011 of the results of the testing and what action (if any) they plan to take.

If you are considering the purchase of a new bat for your son or daughter East Nepean Little League recommends you hold off for now. East Nepean Little League is in communication with Little League Canada and our equipment suppliers to understand how this will impact our League.
