Umpiring with East Nepean
Umpiring is a great way to stay involved in the game, make new friends and earn some cash while doing it. From the cool afternoons in April to the hot summer nights in August, our job is to make sure games are fair and fun for our players in East Nepean. This information should give you a sense of who we are and we do, and hopefully incentivizes you to become an umpire! It also provides helpful information for our returning officials.
Registration Info 2026
Looking to umpire with us this upcoming season? Registration will open in February, and you will be able to access the registration form through a link on this page. First year umpires will need to go through an Intro Clinic and an On-Field Clinic, which we host at no cost, in order to work games. New umpires will receive a free hat, patch, ball bag, brush, and indicator, as well as the option to purchase a mask for a discounted price.
Adult Umpires: Please note that a valid Police Record Check is required to officiate games.
Incentives
In the spirit of umpire morale and retention, we offer rewards for those who decide to continue in our umpire program for multiple years.
Chest Protector: Umpires, upon entering their third year, can receive a chest protector from the league if they have completed a minimum of 16 games (1 game per week for 4 months)
Jacket: Umpires entering their third year will also receive an East Nepean Umpire jacket, provided by the league.
Pay Raise: Umpires receive an automatic pay raise in their third year, and an additional one once they become an adult. Umpires who are excelling through the program can also request an early pay raise through the Umpire in Chief.
District Tournaments: Umpires who are improving significantly amongst their peers, and show a willingness to learn and improve in all aspects of umpiring, may receive an invitation to work district games. These are the first step in a team’s journey to reach the Little League World Series. These games are all volunteer, and feature 4-umpire crews. Umpires who are interested can contact the Umpire in Chief.
OBA
We are always looking for new umpires for our OBA program. We currently have two teams at the 15U and 16U levels. If interested in officiating, you can contact the UIC, or indicate you are OBA certified in the registration form. Please note: OBA requires yearly, paid recertification. You must be a certified OBA umpire to work Cardinals games.
Assignments
Assignments will be given out one week in advance prior to games. Games are assigned using the Assignr system. Umpires are asked to routinely update their Assignr schedule whenever events arise. For questions about Assignr, please reach out to our assigner Dave Wiener at umpassigner@eastnepeanbaseball.ca
